Like the Banqiao apartment, the Hu residence in Hsinchu is awash in extensive light natural woodwork. The apartment one bedroom, one bathroom apartment is furnished in a neutral color palette. The above photograph shows the spacious living area with a light brown microfiber sofa and a large television mounted on the far wall, which is painted black as an accent.
The apartment may be on the smaller side, but the smooth lines, minimalist furniture, and light color palette make the space feel open and larger than it actually is.
Look for open shelving that provides a barrier without closing in the rooms, rail lighting throughout the apartment, and personal touches that make the apartment feel welcoming.
In low lighting, the natural wood flooring looks nearly white or gray, while in sunlight, it takes on the color of light pine. The wood in the bedroom is a mix of the same hardwood flooring as the rest of the apartment and a honey-colored oak accent wall behind the bed, dotted with spaces to plug in electronics.
Overall, this apartment is a spectacular example of modern and minimalist design that we hope will inspire you.
This view of the living room from the far wall, showing the living room. The wall behind the couch has light wood shelving that contrasts beautifully with the black paint. A projector is on the top shelf. A small nook to the left holds a keyboard and two guitars, acting as a small music nook. The hallway to the right leads to the bathroom and bedroom.
This view of the main sitting area in the living room in natural sunlight shows the lightly curving open shelving that leads into the back wall. The “hearth” is slightly raised from the floor.
This angle is from the corner of the kitchen. While the majority of the walls are painted, the kitchen and hall leading into it have white stone walls that provide a little difference in texture. This photograph also gives a great view of the open glass shelving. Without anything currently on them, the shelves provide a view into the living room.
A straight view of the living room from half-way behind the open glass and wood shelving.
The music nook is right in front of the large windows, which provide plenty of natural light to read music by.
The larger sofa is paired with more minimalist furniture. The white-gray coffee table has a matching slim computer stand. The computer stand can easily be moved towards the couch for comfortable use.
On one side of the small galley kitchen is another music nook, this time containing a drum set. A small circular pendant light hangs above the kitchen bar.
The oak accent wall behind the bed has built-in storage and small cube lights instead of nightstands and lamps.
The light linen bedding fits nicely with the rest of the neutral color palette of the apartment.
The bedroom does have one small, slim nightstand on the right, but otherwise the room has minimal furniture. A large window with airy curtains is on the left wall.
