A Malibu beach home once owned by Academy Award-winning composer Henry Mancini was recently listed for $11.6 million.
Located on 0.15 acres, the La Costa Beach home was originally purchased by Mancini for $147,500 in 1972. Although Mancini passed away in 1994, his family has continued to maintain the property. Built in the 1950s, the mid-century modern home has classic charm and modern updates.
The four-bedroom, three-bath home is located on a stretch of white sand near the La Costa Beach Club, a popular resort. It has breathtaking views of the ocean and the Malibu Pier. While some beaches in Malibu can get crowded, this property is in a secluded location that can’t be accessed by the public, making it the perfect place to get away from it all.

This property is located just off the Pacific Coast Highway. At the entryway, there is a roomy two-car garage, as well as a large driveway. While one side of the property faces the highway, the other side is right on the ocean. Several landmark locations are in sight of the property, including the Point Dume bluff.
Throughout the home, there are spacious windows that showcase the surrounding scenery and let in plenty of natural light. There’s a strong emphasis on both indoor and outdoor living spaces, with balconies and decks located on both levels of the home.
The dining room has a mirrored wet bar that’s connected to a large wraparound banquette. This space leads directly into the kitchen, where you’ll find dual ovens, stainless steel appliances, and a built-in breakfast nook. There are also recessed lights built into the ceiling, which provide ample lighting for every room.
In the living room is a huge marble fireplace that stretches from the floor to the ceiling. There’s also a built-in television and pristine tile floors. On one side is a wall that’s covered in sliding glass doors, which lead directly out to an ocean-side deck. The main floor of the house also contains a full-sized bathroom and a bedroom that’s currently being used as an office.
On the upper level, you’ll find three additional bedrooms, two of which have their own private deck. The primary bedroom has lots of beautiful features, like built-ins and a wood-beamed ceiling. In the ensuite primary bathroom, there’s a huge soaking tub and an elegant marble shower.
While the beachside location already provides beautiful views, the property also has a large courtyard at the entryway. This area is covered in natural stone and greenery. The space has built-in seating and a fire pit that can provide some much-needed warmth on chilly nights. It’s an amazing spot for entertaining, and Mancini reportedly hosted many famous guests at the property over the years.
Henry Mancini started working as a musician in 1946, when he joined the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He joined the Universal-International music department in 1952, where he scored more than 100 films. One of Mancini’s most famous songs is “Moon River,” which was featured in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Mancini’s former home is in a prime location. Not only is it a beachfront property, but it’s just a short distance away from famous restaurants like Nobo Malibu and Dukeโs Restaurant. Over the years, many celebrities have chosen to make Malibu their home, including Matthew McConaughey and Leonardo DiCaprio.
