Located on a richly wooded lot in Praia do Espelho, in the municipality of Porto Seguro, the house was conceived as a route that crosses two pavilions and a patio, formed by them, towards the mirrored view of the sea of the Bahian coast (or Costa do Descobrimento).
The project, developed in collaboration with the architect Tiago Bernardes, responds to the division of the program into two parts: the north pavilion, next to the entrance, contains the children’s and guest rooms and a family room, organized around a veranda; the south pavilion is connected to this, via the pool patio, which houses the couple’s suite and the social area and opens completely to the view of the sea.
The two blocks are covered by identical canal tile roofs, on one side, protecting the interior from the wind that comes from the sea and opening up to those arriving. This design allows for the creation of semi-covered private patios for the bathrooms in the access pavilion. In the main pavilion, it invites filtered light into the living room and veranda.
The simple construction is based on construction techniques widely known in the region: wooden roof structure, cyclopean concrete foundations, whitewashed masonry walls and wooden frames. The frames, combined with the high openings provided by the single-pitched roof, offer different opening and closing possibilities, in a delicate composition of light, breeze and view.
