Welcome to our second gallery highlighting the beautifully elegant interior designs of Taipei-based firm Awork.
In a home billed as “Cold Fusion” with a calm, metallic toned modern minimalist style, coherency and fluidity rule the day. This open-plan interior design boasts a unified tone throughout.
Completed in 2014, this home resides in a 50 floor high rise in the capital city of Taiwan, with 3 bedrooms, 2 hallways, and 3 bathrooms.
Construction materials consist of iron, richly stained wood, stone, metal brick, and an expanse of wear-resistant hardwood flooring. The sprawling space is informed and unified by a singular color scheme, incorporating neutral and dark tones, with subtle bursts of color.
Throughout this home, you’ll notice the complex interplay of neutral and natural materials, combining for a texturally rich yet unified appearance. Coupled with the open, fluid floor plan, these elements help producing the stylistically cohesive atmosphere.
There are several standout components of this home that deserve mention, including the island placed outside the kitchen, offering utility and beauty in a novel setting, and helping to define the areas within the open-plan space.
Another prominent design choice is the use of uniquely textured wall details, including geometric white patterns in the living room and striped panels in the hallway. These allow for a more nuanced appearance without adding clutter.
The main takeaway with this home is the way a solid design vision can inform an entire disparate space, creating a visual language that pulls the entire home together.
To the right we see the unique island placed outside of the kitchen, defining the edge of this living room space as much as the division between hardwood and tile flooring. There are several ultra-modern touches seen throughout this space, including the slim pendant lighting.
With this angled view, we can see completely across the large open-plan space at the center of this home. The living room gives way to a central hall and the kitchen, at center, decked out in sleek white textures.
The dark contemporary sectional and black shag rug in this room keep an elegant tone, lightened via sunlight through the full height window sets. The sparse, minimalist layout expands the visual space.
The hallway gleams with large format tile flooring, a glossy contrast to the textural wood tones seen throughout most of the home.
With this close look at the white wall behind the entertainment center, we can appreciate the angular, geometric textures, adding nuanced detail to the white space. A couple shelves are discreetly built into the wall.
The sectional can be reconfigured to change the layout of this room. At center, the island functions as a dining space, storage, and room divider.
When taken together as a while, we see how the open space can accommodate many different configurations of the furniture, while the hardwood flooring in this space acts as a unifying element.
The island features a thick slab marble top and dark wood body, surrounded by contemporary leather upholstered bar stools. The kitchen can be seen beyond, clad in glossy white textures from top to bottom.
The kitchen countertop extends into the gap between spaces, helping define the hallway itself. At the far end we see the distinct geometric patterns on the end wall.
The intense mixture of varied textures and tones creates subtle visual fireworks, offering a buffet of detail that’s contained to a limited palette.
Glancing down the reflective surface of the island, we can get a close view of the built-in bookshelves, flush in dark stained wood for a high contrast appearance in the home.
The set of five thin cylindrical pendant lights is one of many innovative lighting elements that aim to underscore the highly functional modern nature of this home design.
Here’s a very close up view of that detailed living room wall, highlighting the interplay between glossy and rough textured squares, and the subtle depth at play.
A long view down the hallway reveals the striped wall texture at left and glass panels at left, partially obscuring the room beyond.
Here we see a dark stained wood pocket door, emerging from the wall to help separate the rooms when privacy is needed.
The entrance to the primary bedroom sports another pocket door, and is framed by a glossy black wall with inner-lit display shelving.
The bedroom is a veritable rainbow of color compared to the rest of the home, punctuated by a soft yellow recliner and ottoman. Dark, textured wallpaper contrasts with light hardwood flooring.
The closet features a truly innovative concealment, with glossy outer sliding panels revealing a dresser and inner-lit shelving within. A jet-black dresser at right features similarly glossy drawer surfaces.
With the lighting turned up, we see how different the bedroom can appear. Subtle embedded lighting along the ceiling edge provides a unique glow.
The bed itself is flanked by a pair of glossy white dresser tables, with a contemporary grey bench at the foot. The bold yellow chair and ottoman are leather upholstered in a minimalist contemporary style.
The bathroom is wrapped in white marble from the floor on up, boasting both a glass enclosed walk-in shower and marble vanity with extra-wide vessel sink.
