A whole home remodel featuring elegant coastal decor, functionality that marries the homeowner’s lifestyle needs, and plenty of personality!
These homeowners in Round Hill, VA had two very different styles to incorporate into their space. She loved coastal decor, and he was more of a mid-century kind of guy! We even coined a new term just for them “Mid Century Coastal” and pulled it off seamlessly.
The family had moved from a townhouse into this larger home that’s over 4,000 square feet. They brought very few items with them or that they wanted to keep so we were tasked with designing, furnishing, and styling the entire home, down to the screened-in porch and two back decks.
Even amidst Covid-19 material delays, they stayed patient, positive and a joy to work with. The project was a designer’s dream come true and we had so much fun working with this delightful duo and their son.
Sophisticated.
Step foot into this unique entryway with a console that catches the eye right away. Made of reclaimed wood in a coastal beach gray wash, this stacked look is a one-of-a-kind and just the right piece for the space. The antique mirror that hangs above offers some Old World Charm and a spot to check hair and makeup before flying out the door.
Breathe Easy. You’re Home.
The formal living room is one of our favorites! The chairs are not only elegant, they’re also incredibly comfortable and offer just the right height of pillow to ensure you can get really comfy. It’s elegant coastal decor at its finest with chairs constructed of white-lacquered mahogany with handwoven cane sides and back.
The upholstery and lumbar pillows are made of a creamy linen fabric. The gorgeous chandelier is a showstopper, made of wrought iron, pairs an airy open design with a glossy glass droplet accent crystal in the middle. Don’t forget the cocktail ottoman, made of natural oak wood and linen-tufted fabric on top with bronze nailheads to complete the look.
A family heirloom comes into play with an old record player that they wanted to showcase. A fun and unique piece, it fits beautifully between the two French doors that open to the front porch. The French doors have custom woven wood shades with a pair of simple wide linen stripe custom draperies flanking one side. This room is a perfect place to sit and read or sip a glass of wine.
For the Formal Dining Room, we utilized a table, chairs, and a buffet hutch the client owned and wanted to incorporate. Then we brought in an elegant, but not stuffy, feel to this room by combining the midcentury style he was drawn to with the coastal feel and colors that define her unique style. Our amazing carpenters constructed the back wall, based on our drawings and designs, to help the rooms flow seamlessly into one another and give the dining room a focal point.
We love the gorgeous coastal decor-inspired paint color. Wondering which part of the design gets the most ooh’s and aah’s? The Mid-Century style Sputnik light fixture attracts the most comments and likes on social media, and compliments from in-person dinner party guests.
The Eat-in Kitchen was designed with a new light fixture, solid Teak pedestal table, and four Teak chairs. A machine-washable rug adds function and makes it perfect for under the kitchen table, where most of the family’s meals are eaten every day!
The Family Room included a sofa, coffee table, and piano that the family wanted to keep. We wanted to ensure that this space worked with higher volumes of foot traffic, more frequent use, and of course… the occasional spills. We used an indoor/outdoor rug that is soft underfoot and brought in the beautiful coastal aquas and blues with it.
A sturdy oak cabinet atop brass metal legs makes for an organized place to stash games, art supplies, and toys to keep the family room neat and tidy, while still allowing for a space to live. Even the remotes and video game controllers have their place. Behind the media stand is a feature wall, done by our contractor per our design, which turned out phenomenally! It features an exaggerated and unique diamond pattern.
We love to design spaces that are just as functional, as they are beautiful.
Functional
Our client loves deep jewel tones and this first floor home office delivers. Her in-person meeting attendees are made quite comfortable in the luxurious, emerald velvet guest chairs. The desk was painted and color matched to the chairs for an undeniably elegant look and feel.
The light fixture above her desk belonged to a family member and was important to our client so we included it in the design to give a sense of personalization and bring in a sense of closeness to her loved ones. For this office space, we did floor-to-ceiling custom built-ins. These are not your typical built-ins. With wide shelving that allowed for intrigue with house art and large scale accessories. Zoom background envy, anyone?
In the second office space, we brought in his Mid-Century look and went bold with a blue that is a nod to the owner’s love of Wes Anderson films. We actually took the color scheme found in many of the films and wove it in for the perfect Mid-Century office, overlooking the lake. Working from the office never had a view or a feel like this!
You Spend ⅓ of Your Life in Your Bedroom…
Which is why we believe your Primary Bedroom should make you feel like you are on vacation! This one delivers with a custom art piece of the beach, delivering the coastal vibes, and adorning the beautiful deep blue walls. We reupholstered our client’s favorite chair to pull in more dreamy hues of a tropical paradise and added a custom upholstered ottoman. The custom draperies that provide a soft backdrop with their muted beachy tones and an arabesque pattern.
We designed their pre-teen’s room to include what he loves now, and give him room to the end of his teenage years. We incorporated his favorite colors, crown molding with RGB lighting that turns many different colors and allows him to dance to the beat of his own drum and the music he loves! He enjoys reading and a recliner was a must for supporting hours of enthrallment in a good book.
Both guest rooms bring in the best of both luxury and practicality, encouraging guests to sleep in just a little bit later on Saturday morning or have their breakfast in bed. The guest rooms can accommodate out-of-town guests and teenage sleepovers as well as just be a great spot for laying down for an afternoon nap.
Let’s take this outside
Every home needs an outdoor space to relax, soak up the beautiful weather and views, and simply BE.
This outdoor space delivers with comfy chairs, an ottoman that can also act as a landing pad for a glass of wine or cup of coffee and draperies to bring in warmth, texture and privacy. The deck and the back porch overlook the lake and welcome these homeowner’s in with open arms long day after long day. From the happy homeowners, “We can hardly believe we live here!”
