The clients wanted to create a modern, stylish and interesting home that always feels welcoming. The design needed to age well and ‘sit lightly on the land’ as well as being open and airy.
The most important design parameter was livability, particularly in relation to the prevailing winds and the request was for the property to be understated, not ostentatious.
The resulting architect-designed home in Coorabell capitalizes on the views — with two outdoor decks and a sheltered courtyard. The U-shape plan consists of an open living area and two bedroom wings. The two separate decks (one sheltered from the north-east wind and the other sheltered from the south-west wind) met the client’s needs for undercover outdoor space, sheltered from the winds of the Hinterland.
