I’m not suggesting that patterned accent chairs are the accent chair style du jour across the board, but I will say I was pleasantly surprised how many great examples I viewed during my four days at Fall 2023 High Point Market.
It wasn’t just one furniture brand either. I found beautifully patterned accent chairs at several showrooms. Mind you, I didn’t see every showroom at the market; that would be impossible in four days. Braxton Culler, Nuevo, Century, Universla (Erinn V line), Nuevo, Hancock & Mooore and Theordore Alexander all featured bold accent chairs. What’s more interesting, every example except from Nuevo, as you’ll see below, were patterned.
I’m a big fan of using accent chairs to pepper in patterns into a room. They’re not called “accent” chairs for nothing, right? I shouldn’t be so bold because neutral accent chairs also work well.
10 Examples of Beautiful Bold Patterned Accent Chairs from High Point Market
Here are my ten faves that I had the good fortune to check out.
1. Coastal pattern
Braxton Culler showroom had a great coastal vibe going on with several displays and items. Here’s an example of five coastal patterned accent chairs by Braxton Culler. It’s also interesting to note that that blue coastal was a common design theme at High Point
2. Bold blue accent chairs on geo-area rug
Nuevo knocked it out of the park with this bold living room display featuring bold monochromatic blue accent chairs on a geo-area rug. While these chairs aren’t patterned, I included the in this article to showcase how a patterned rug like this can create the bold, patterned look in a room. Once again, blue plays a role although this is not coastal.
3. Pattern meets neutrals
Next up is an example from the Universal Furniture showroom. This is such a great example of a mostly neutrals living room livened up with two patterned accent chairs. I’m fond of those accent chairs but I’m not excited about the also-patterned but not matching coffee table (which does match the throw pillows interestingly). This room is fantastic but could be better with a more neutral coffee table.
4. Patterned accent chairs face-to-face
One of the most pleasant surprises of my entire visit to High Point was the Theodore Alexander showroom. Stunning pieces throughout (and displays). This particular example is a traditional living room design with three patterned accent chairs; one large and two matching smaller designs. I’m of the view that it was a good choice to keep the area rug and sofa neutral. If you like traditional design, this is a winner.
5. Sumptuous pattern
I found HANCOCK & MOORE on my last day at High Point. I’m sure glad I did because it’s a huge showroom beautifully set up with the most sumptuous interiors I saw; well I should say right up there with a few of the others. Here’s an example of a floral patterned accent chair placed in a rich, textured living room interior with a lot going on but it works beautifully.
FYI, HANCOCK & MOORE did the finest job showcasing just how much draperies can enhance a space. Many of their displays included draperies and while I fashion myself as someone who prefers contemporary design, I’m more and more becoming a fan of draperies in design.
6. Old School Wingback with a Pattern
Once again HANCOCK & MOORE make the list going old school with this patterned leather wingback. Talk about a fascinating chair.
7. Blurred blue patterned accent chair
A tad of coastal blue coming through again with this Erinn V line accent chair. It’s a great chair because it easy to blend in many color schemes and designs.
8. Bring the forest inside
I was in the CHADDOCK showroom where I stumbled on this absolutely stunning living room display. There’s so much going on here… nature, boldness and richness. It’s not contemporary but not staid traditional either. Where this room really shines is how there are many patterns throughout yet it works together. The forest themed patterned large accent chairs are works of art especially when paired with the green and white footrests. FYI, green was also a popular color at market.
9. Go big or go home – the ultimate accent showpiece
This particular bold, hexagon accent chair by Century attracted a great deal of attention. Everyone loved it. It’s an odd piece but oh, so cool. It’s striking in color and pattern but also of course, in design, size and shape.
10. Red accented living room example
I can’t say red was a big color at market this year but it was found in some displays and on some furniture. This is one example by Braxton Culler (of coastal blue fame above). These matching red geo-patterned accent chairs with dark wicker-like frame would fit well in any earth-tone color scheme as well. This is a very symmetrical living room design with two matching accent chairs with matching throw pillows.
