Shopping for a home on Long Island’s Gold Coast just got easier since you can draw inspiration from the 1986 film “The Money Pit” starring Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. The vast mansion in Oyster Bay lists for $5.9 million and is far from the disastrous investment depicted in the film.

The Makowsky family spent four years making improvements to the home to bring the mansion, built in 1898, up-to-date. Its 23 rooms now sparkle, enhanced by intricate moldings, ebony wood flooring, an eat-in kitchen, and a brick terrace. The remodeling crew revamped the massive formal rooms for entertaining and the study.

The home features seven roomy en-suite bedrooms as well as a four-room primary bedroom. The bedrooms feature walk-in closets, one of which is circular. The circular closet features an attached bathroom.

The home also boasts eight fireplaces. You will encounter the first one in its grand foyer. Its exteriors feature formal gardens, fountains, a swimming pool, pool house.
