That’s one of the great things about pendant lights. Not only can you install them exactly where you want them, but most of them are designed to adjust, making them either closer to the ceiling or lower in the room. Some pendant lights can be shortened and lengthened simply by holding the light and gently pushing or pulling it in the direction that you want it.
And others can have more detailed ways to adjust the cord that holds the light.
Are pendant lights dimmable?
Pendent lights themselves aren’t dimmable. But the way they are installed can easily make them dimmable. And the type of bulb that’s in the light will matter.
Pendant lights will be wired directly to a wall outlet that controls their operation. If the outlet has a dimmer switch, then the pendant light has the capability of being dimmed. Halogen and incandescent bulbs respond well to dimming.
Some LED bulbs may require a specific dimming switch and other components. And fluorescent bulbs cannot always be dimmed.
Should pendant lights be centered over a kitchen island?
They’ll serve their purpose regardless of where they’re hung, as long as they’re high enough that nobody is bumping into them. But not having them centered over a kitchen island can cause some problems. For one thing, a kitchen island is often the focal point of the room.
If there are pendant lights hanging over the island, they need to be centered both on the width and the length of the island. Otherwise, the room will look crooked and the pendant lights won’t look right. As long as nobody will bump into them, they’re fine anywhere. Above tables, you’ll usually see them about 36 inches above the table top although they can usually be adjusted up or down. And on other ceilings, they can hang at whatever height allows them to function effectively and show their beauty.
A basic rule of thumb would be to have them hanging no less that 6-feet from the floor for safety purposes.
Can pendant lights be used in a bathroom?
Pendant lights are commonly used in bathrooms over vanities. Not only are they stylish and attractive, but if you can raise them up and down, they’ll be able to give you a little more light when you need it.
Can you paint pendant lights?
You know what they always say. You can paint anything, right? But depending on what you are trying to paint, it might not be the best idea.
Pendant lights would probably fall into that category. Unless the fixture is made of wood, chances are that any paint application wouldn’t do the pendant light the justice that it deserves. Not only would it just not look right, but the finish would wear quickly.
