Welcome to our gallery featuring the innovative 62nd Street home by Baran Studio.
This open-plan home is a single family residence located in Oakland, California.
The sprawling landscape houses a refreshingly bright and open structure with plenty of natural materials throughout.
Standing on a uncommonly large lot for an urban development, the home truly takes advantage of the land by spreading outward and integrating with its neighborhood context.
Both indoor and outdoor components of the home flow seamlessly into one another, affording a continuous experience of space.
A thematic linkage is created between these spaces via an adaptive wood element that stretches from the front fence to the main entry and on through the interior, ending in the back garden as a fence again.
This unique structural element is one of many sustainable qualities that were integrated into the material infrastructure. In fact, you’ll see rich natural wood throughout the home, including rows of bespoke exposed beams running the length of the ceiling.
Within the broad open space at the heart of the home, a living room, dining area, and kitchen share a continuous floor plan. At the far end, the kitchen is defined by dark cabinetry and marble backsplashes.
Large sliding glass panels help visually connect the indoor and outdoor spaces, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and rich wood fencing.
The high contrast look of this home, with natural elements juxtaposed against expanses of minimalist white, makes for a timeless appeal.
At the center of the open space, we see the lengthy dining table flanked by sets of clear acrylic and metal chairs. This touch of the ultra-modern is balanced by expanses of rich natural wood.
Here’s a close look at the kitchen, with white countertops, black cupboards, and a bold marble backsplash that wraps the upper white cabinetry and sink area. A slim white island offers more contrast and helps define the area.
Turning toward the rest of the massive open space, we can see that the island hosts a pair of modern bar stools for in-kitchen dining, while a large row of windows pours in natural light. The rich wood ceiling beams run the length of the home, connecting the disparate ends.
At the far end of the open area, we see the living room decked out in swaths of natural wood and elegant contemporary furniture. A complex set of built-in shelving on the wall provides space for art and storage, while the all-wood feature wall at left continues this element within the home.
The primary bedroom is awash in white, contrasting with the dark flooring that appears throughout the home. In here we see more of the exposed wood beams, as well as a large set of wood framed glass French doors with direct access to the backyard.
In the bathroom, we see more of the light marble tiling that informs the kitchen, wrapping around the vanity and bath area. This room also features a discrete commode and a glass-enclosed shower.
The backyard landscape is rightly considered part of the home, with a built-in bench providing seating for the outdoor dining area, and a large water feature standing across from the glass doors at left.
Here we see the massive natural wood wall, forming part of the continuous element that runs from the front approach to the back of the property. It features built-in shelving for slim container gardens here.
Here we see the front entry, a more private facade than the back of the home, with a slim row of windows allowing a narrow glimpse inside. The rich natural wood surrounds this space, informing the rest of the structure.
