Welcome to our gallery highlighting the gorgeous minimalism of the Warran Road project, a home created by Base Architecture.
Designed with environmental adaptability and a relaxed beach lifestyle in mind, the Warran Road home materialized with a very specific aim.
The upper and lower levels are designed to function as separate dwellings, in order to facilitate holiday rental of the lower level while the owner occupies the rest of the house. Making use of the entire structure, when accommodating guests, is a simple matter of opening a large sliding door to blend the spaces.
One of the most unique features of this project is its location and surroundings. The site was surrounded by neighbors who built their land up to accommodate the flooding nature of the area, which meant the land had potential to be inundated with rising water, exciting the client.
Careful study of the potential water levels led to a design allowing the house to rest at a height that will not flood, yet potentially remain surrounded by water.
One major consideration of the construction methodology was the concept of low maintenance and affordability. Concentrated thought was applied to the mix of materials reminiscent of beach houses. Nestled in a relaxed beachside community, hiding within the heavy foliage, and floating in an ever shifting landscape, this dwelling is adaptable in myriad ways.
Seen from the street side, this minimalistic home obscures its striking design by hiding within the foliage, boasting a mixture of natural materials across the facade.
A small natural wood path leads between a pair of trees to the front entryway. We see a mixture of materials, including grey wood cladding, white panels on the upper structure, and natural wood slats throughout.
The sharp rectangular lines of the home contrast with the natural build materials. Here you can see the raised base of the structure, to account for flooding.
Windows and door on the front of the home are covered in thin wooden slats for privacy and shade, while the tall windows on the first floor are comprised of louvered segments for fresh airflow.
The central hall bisects the house, with a mixture of slatted wood openings and white interior walls. Natural light falls through skylights above.
The upper level dining space holds a set of retractible, louvered windows, allowing the area to open freely to the elements. Natural hardwood flooring contrasts with lightly colored walls.
The kitchen features sleek all-white cabinetry below the wood window sets. Subtle ceiling embedded lighting illuminates unobtrusively.
With the louvered windows fully opened, the space breathes with the outdoors, blurring the line between indoors and out. Wraparound views of the surrounding forest compliment the natural build materials.
The primary bedroom opens through full height sliding glass to this semi-private balcony, with natural wood slats casting staggered shadows across the space.
The side of the home is mostly enclosed via white panels divided by natural wood slats. A series of smaller windows holds privacy at a premium here.
Here’s a view of the spectacular rear side of the house. Lower living space opens wide toward an enclosed patio area beneath the upper structure, while windows throughout allow for expansive views.
